Cleaning a cushion or vented hairbrush: remove hair, clean carefully, dry fully
Start with trapped hair, then follow the care instructions for the brush’s construction. Pins, cushions and vented backs need different attention before the brush goes back into storage.
Check the construction first
FOI’s Coconut Vented Detangling Brush has an open back, rounded nylon pins and a long handle. The Mini Cushion Hairbrush has a flexible cushion and rounded pins. These features call for attention to different parts when cleaning.
“Wet and dry use” describes grooming, not permission for prolonged soaking, boiling or dishwashing. The following is a simple handling sequence; use the pack’s instructions to confirm washing methods and permitted cleaners.
Remove trapped hair
In good light, gently lift visible hair along the direction of the pins. Loosen tangles gradually. Avoid sharp objects that could puncture the cushion or force pins out of place, and check for missing tips or bent pins as you work.
Removing hair after grooming makes it easier to see where further cleaning is needed.
Clean according to the label
If washing is permitted, follow the stated method and avoid prolonged immersion of cushion joints. If washability is unconfirmed, begin with a dry or lightly damp soft cloth on accessible surfaces. Do not improvise with strong cleaners, bleach or solvents.
On the vented brush, inspect the edges of the openings and the handle connection. On the cushion brush, pay attention to pin roots and the cushion edge. Ask the seller about persistent residue or damaged construction.
Dry before packing away
Remove surface water and let the brush dry in a ventilated place, away from direct heat. Before placing it in a drawer or travel bag, check for moisture around the pin roots, cushion edge and handle.
Store both brushes where heavy objects will not press on the pins. A compact brush still needs protection from keys and other hard items in a bag.
Use gentle grooming habits too
Pause at tangles rather than pulling through them. The American Academy of Dermatology advises gentle detangling and notes that wet-hair handling differs between straight and tightly curled hair. One routine will not suit every texture. Read the AAD hair-care guidance.
