Twelve plugs means six pairs: quantity, storage and replacement

Count the pieces first

Current FOI materials list 12 individual sleep earplugs, equivalent to six pairs, with a green divided carry case. Check whether a seller describes pieces or pairs; twelve pieces does not mean twelve pairs.

Compartments help organise small items. They do not establish a service life, so six pairs should not be converted into a fixed number of nights or unlimited reuse. View the earplugs.

Read the directions and check condition

Follow the supplied instructions for suitability, fitting and replacement. Do not infer insertion depth from a promotional picture or force a plug further in to seek greater quiet.

Handle with clean hands and check for dirt, damage or a changed shape. Stop if there is pain or discomfort and seek professional advice if it persists. This storage guide is not a substitute for the product’s fitting instructions.

Keep unused and used items separate

If the directions permit reuse, follow the specified cleaning and storage method. Do not soak the plugs without confirmed wash instructions, or mix untreated used items back into a compartment of unused ones.

Check that the case is clean and dry, and that its edges do not trap a plug as it closes. Keep it in a predictable place, away from children and pets.

Reduced sound does not mean silence

Fit and surroundings affect sound reduction. The material available for this article does not support a specific decibel rating or a promise of complete silence or improved sleep.

Consider situations in which traffic, equipment signals, alarms or requests for help must remain audible. Workplace hearing protection should have the certification and suitability required for that setting.

On receiving the pack

• Check the number of pieces, bundle contents and case.
• Keep the fitting, cleaning and replacement instructions.
• Inspect before use and separate unused items from those awaiting attention.
