A sleep mask feels tight? Check position, strap and eye space
The inner contour matters as much as the front. Check the nose position, space around the eyes and strap adjustment separately, then follow the actual care label.
Look inside first
FOI’s black contoured sleep mask has shaped eye areas, a nose recess and an adjustable strap. Look at these features before fitting it. “Contoured” describes construction; it does not promise the same fit for every face, head size or resting position.
Try the mask while awake and able to remove it easily, following the pack directions. View the sleep mask.
Check position, tension and posture
Align the nose recess, then adjust the strap so the mask stays in place. Do not keep tightening simply to press every edge flat. Notice pressure around the eyes, discomfort at the nose or hair caught in the strap.
If you intend to rest on your side, try that position on your own pillow and check for movement. Remove the mask if it hurts or feels uncomfortable, and reconsider the fit instead of tolerating it.
Understand its role
A mask shades the eyes; it does not quieten a room or guarantee sleep or a particular sleep duration. For a short break, arrange the timing and reminder first, then decide whether the surroundings call for a mask.
Do not wear a vision-blocking mask while walking, driving or doing anything that requires awareness of your surroundings. Use it in a suitable resting place.
Read the care label before washing
Do not assume machine washing, bleach or hot drying is appropriate. Follow the specific directions for the surface, strap and internal construction.
- Check the care instructions before cleaning.
- Let both mask and storage pouch dry before packing.
- Keep it away from wet towels and dirty items, and avoid prolonged pressure from heavy objects on the eye sections.
Read about the different roles of masks and earplugs if you are considering both.
